It’s a tried-and-tested fact of life that people mature at a different pace – and mentally, this makes some of us “older” or “wiser” than the rest of our peers. In the same vein, some of us still retain that childish spark that so often is lost as one ages.
Your mental age is an evaluation of your intellectual and emotional performance – the ways with which you deal with life and all of its associated stressors; find meaning, joy or leisure; and adapt to the rapidly-changing dynamics of society in the 21st century.

Some simple short-hand questions for finding your “psychological” age test how you perceive social media, friends, your career, past and future; your idealism or cynicism; your work ethic, and other factors.

In 1905, French psychologist Alfred Binet first came up with the concept of “mental age” for evaluating a person’s overall intelligence level.
By comparing a person’s chronological age – or actual age – to their intellectual skill, Binet created a test that would later serve as the framework for the first practical IQ test, which he would develop with the help of his colleague Théodore Simon.
In fact, Binet derived the idea of an “intelligence quotient” from dividing a person’s mental age by his chronological age and multiplying the quotient by 100.
It turns out that human beings have a broad spectrum of cognitive abilities, and the ages at which different mental skills peak can vary significantly.
In an extensive study that included over 48,000 participants, the researchers discovered that short-term memory – including recall for images and stories – peaked at around 18, or high school graduation age.
Meanwhile, the apex for other faculties, like visual-spatial thinking and abstract reasoning, came at the early adult years, and only began to gradually decline in people’s 30s.
The test presents evidence that certain mental assets, such as one’s vocabulary, information processing, and basic skills in mathematics, peak the latest – being at their best even in one’s 40s or 50s.
